Every child deserves to be safe in his or her home and community.

24% of children (or 400,000) grow up in households below the federal poverty line.
Over 44,000 children receive preventive services annually. A vast majority of these children come to the attention of child welfare due to household inability to meet their basic needs.
54% of children in foster care are Black, despite Black children making up only 22% of the overall child population.
Over 95% of youth admitted to secure detention are Black or Hispanic, a reflection of the structural racism they face.

Children’s well-being is tied closely to the economic security of their families and communities. We advocate for policies that promote economic mobility for parents, caretakers and youth experiencing poverty and other hardships and we prioritize policies that promote child and youth safety within their homes and broader communities.

CCC advocates to:

Deepen tax relief benefits such as the earned income tax credit and childcare tax credit to lift incomes of poor households.
Connect families to banking and savings platforms to help build wealth and reduce poverty.
Keep families intact and children safe by increasing investments in child abuse and neglect prevention.
Increase a wide range of essential supports for court-involved youth and young adults.
Ensure all households have access to broadband internet.
Eliminate over-policing of communities and increase investments in essential infrastructure and supports at the community level.
Ensure communities have equitable access to safe and well-maintained streets, parks, green spaces and playgrounds, as well as affordable transportation options.
